Dear Parents and Guardians,

New Years Resolutions

At Molehill Copse we are committed to improving our whole school attendance. Our current attendance has fallen to 88%. During 2010 we are making a new year's resolution to improve attendance and punctuality in order that this figure improves to 95%. This term our attendance has been:

A big well done to Robins- they have achieved the highest attendance and lowest punctuality figures this term. Unlucky Kingfishers, Giraffes and Monkeys. But just two people off in a week can lower a classes attendance by at least 5% . In term 4, the class with the most improved attendance and punctuality will receive a prize. Classes will be kept up to date on a weekly basis to see how well they are doing. Please ensure that you help them by calling on the first day of any sickness and if possible arranging doctors and dentist appointments after school.

During an academic year there are 190 school days. That leaves 175 days for holidays and trips. We know that illness is an unavoidable occurrence but one day off every week equates to a term every five years.

Every Minute Counts, Every School Day Counts
Lateness = lost learning* Figures below are calculated over a school year.
5 minutes late each day
3 DAYS LOST!
10 minutes late each day
6.5 DAYS LOST!
15 minutes late each day
10 DAYS LOST!
20 minutes late each day
13 DAYS LOST!
30 minutes late each day
19 DAYS LOST!
Danger Zone: As few as 19 missed days over the school year reduces your child's chance of success. Your child's results could drop by one grade across all subjects!

How does your attendance affect your performance at school?

Above 93.5%: very good
chance of achieving your target grades/levels. This is 177 days at school.
Above 92.5%: good chance of achieving your target grades/ levels. This is 175 days at school.
Above 91.5%: fairly good chance of achieving your target grades/levels. This is 173 days at school.
Below 90%: less than 50% chance of achieving your target grades/levels. This is 171 days at school.
Below 88%: less than 35% chance of achieving your target grades/levels. This is 167 days at school.
Below 87%: less than 20% chance of achieving your target grades/levels. This is less than 165 days at school.
Lower than 80%: least chance
of achieving target grades/ levels.

Next term there will be a variety of curriculum days and team building days for the pupils to take part in. Please help us to support your child by ensuring they are in school on time as much as possible.

Have a good New Year and thank you for your continued support.
